Day 1: Your current relationship. If single, discuss being single.

I’m going to be getting real personal during this challenge, aren’t I?

So, let’s discuss being single.

For much of my teens and my early twenties, I actually didn’t care that I didn’t have a significant other. Now that I’m at the point in my life when I’m making moves to finally get my life in order, I’m making finding an SO a priority. I kind of regret being single for as long as I’ve been. I’m turning 26 in August and I’ve been single for all but about two months of that. Chronologically, I’ve been single for the past seven years or so… I know, right?

I partially blame Facebook for this. Many of the people I knew in grade school are now happily married (I assume), some with kids and even their own homes. And here I am, with none of that. Mind you, I hope I’ll never be at the point where I’ll actually need a significant other in order to be happy; I’m just ready to find someone who’s looking to be happy along with me.

I also have this irrational fear that I will somehow end up being alone for the rest of my life. At the same time, if I did end up dying alone, I’d go nuts. I know it sounds cliche (which is cliche in and of itself) but I have a lot of love to give. So yeah, I used to be completely indifferent when it came to being single, but I’m at the age and time where that just isn’t what I’m about anymore.

I made it one of my New Year’s Resolutions for a reason.

TOMORROW: Where you’d like to be in ten years.
